William 'Buck" Thomas Buckingham

William Thomas “BUCK” Buckingham of Sunbury, Ohio (age 88) passed away Tuesday December 7th at his residence of natural causes.

He was married nearly 50 years to Dorothy Ruth Buckingham (Coleman) of Marysville, Ohio until her passing in 2005.

Born in Lancaster, Ohio December 21, 1921, he was the only son of Carl and Hazel Buckingham (Stebleton). He was a 1939 graduate of Carroll High School. Achieving dual degrees from Otterbein College in Westerville, Oh. as well as an MBA from Ohio University, Athens Oh., Buck was an accomplished Metallurgical Chemist for many years at both Battelle Memorial Institute and Foseco Industries in Columbus and Cleveland Ohio. In addition, an award winning Dale Carnegie instructor and franchise owner.

Best known for his nearly 50 year dedication to his orchards and farm market in Delaware County, he was truly an “APPLE MAN”. Producing, developing and distributing well over 100 varieties of apples every season, what began as a hobby, became his passion. Over the years, there has been countless wagon rides to the orchard with countless numbers of guests all for the experience to just “Pick Your Own”. The “old guy” ready at the scales by the front door is how most will remember him in these most recent years.
He shared his knowledge of apples and their production with hundreds of elementary students each apple season with the help of his truly dedicated employees.

Buck was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman most of his life. He had a passion for art and literature and was dedicated to his church and faith in God. He truly possessed a unique character, personality and world view.

He is survived by his son, Michael (spouse Julie) and 2 daughters Pamela and Julie. Grandchildren- Jennifer, Billy, Joseph, Rachael, and Leah. Great-grandchildren, Tyler, Marissa, Brooklyn, Destiny, Faith and Alexandria and Faithful Dog, Nipper.
He is proceeded in death by father Carl and mother Hazel, and his beloved wife Dorothy.

A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday December 20th at Grace Brethren Church of Polaris, 8225 Worthington-Galena Rd. Westerville, Ohio 43081. Room DC-200- (Use the main entrance off Lazelle Rd.)
